Groundhog Day is finally here! But will Phil see his shadow?
Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2 in the U.S. and Canada. According to folklore, if the groundhog doesn’t see it’s shadow upon emerging from its burrow today, it means the spring season will arrive early. On the other hand, if it’s sunny and the groundhog sees it’s shadow, it means a prolonged winter!
The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, with Punxsutawney Phil, the town’s beloved groundhog. A select group, called the Inner Circle, takes care of Phil year-round and also plans the annual ceremony with music and food in a festive celebration.
