Guide to Girl Scout Uniforms

For over a century, Girl Scouts have proudly worn distinctive uniforms that symbolize the high ideals for which the organization stands. Today, girls can look and feel their best while representing Girl Scouts with uniform options that are in step with current trends and active lifestyles.

Girl Scouts at each level wear one required element (tunic, sash, or vest) to display official pins and awards. Girls can mix and match pieces from the official Girl Scout collection to complete the uniform, or choose to add items from their own wardrobes.

For girls ages 5 to 14, the official uniform is a tunic, vest, or sash worn with their own solid white shirts and khaki pants or skirts. Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts have the option of purchasing a full uniform ensemble, while girls in high school may opt to wear an official Girl Scout scarf. Girl Scout badges, patches, awards, and other insignia should be presented, worn, and displayed only after Girl Scouts have completed the necessary requirements outlined in official program materials. While earning Girl Scout badges for completing the skill-building activities in Journey books, begin by placing your first Journey awards at the bottom of your vest. As you earn additional Journey awards, work your way up. If your Journey awards and badges don’t fit on the front of your vest or sash, you can wear them on the back. Journey awards are to always be placed above your badges. When a girl receives patches for participating in fun events, activities or other programs, they are to be placed on the back of vests or sashes.

Adult Uniforms

Adult members should wear their own navy blue business attire with official awards and membership pins. To complete their uniforms, women wear an official Girl Scout scarf and men wear a Girl Scout tie.
