Badge-Earning Outdoor Activities to Try Before the Summer Ends

While the new school year is fast approaching, we’re still holding on to the last few weeks of summer! With Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend, Girl Scout camp, and adventures galore, it’s been a very busy summer with our girls enjoying the outdoors!

There are countless benefits to spending time outside, a few of which include improved health and happiness, stronger leadership skills and social bonds, and increased creativity and confidence! As a bonus, there are so many Girl Scout badges that can be completed outdoors. Soak up the last bit of your long summer days with one of these badge-earning outdoor activities!

Daisies

daisy.pngCamp it Out: Earn the Daisy Buddy Camper Badge and discover what an adventure camping is! Spend a day playing in nature and the night sleeping beneath the stars. Girls will help plan a camping trip, help pack for the trip, and go camping (campsites and backyards alike are welcome!).

 

Brownies

brownie.pngHit the Trails: While earning the Brownie Hiker Badge, Girl Scouts will learn about their local trails and how to follow trail signs. Pack a snack and your hiking gear, and get ready for a nature scavenger hunt or game of “I Spy!”

 

Juniors

juniorBe an Outdoor Detective: Girl Scouts will search for hidden treasure chests when they earn their Junior Geocoacher Badge Using “clues” from an official geocoaching site, girls will practice reading longitude and latitude coordinates with a GPS receiver. Make a trade item to leave behind and track a Travel Bug’s journey!

 

Cadettes

cadette.pngExplore After Dark: No sunlight? No problem! Tour the world and explore nature at night while earning the Cadette Night Owl Badge. Take a nighttime stroll of your neighborhood (with a parent or troop leader) and notice what’s different, meet people who work night hours, and explore nature in the moonlight!

Seniors

senior.pngBe a Thrill-Seeker: Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to go rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, rafting, and more (or a combination!) while earning the Senior Adventurer Badge. Work as a team as you plan your trip, pack your gear, and leave the environment better than you found it as you tackle a multi-day outdoor adventure trip!

Plan a trip to the beach, river, or lake for Girl Scouts to earn their Ambassador Water Badge Try out a new water sport (or enjoy one you already know), delve into water art, and learn more about this precious resource and how we can better protect it.
