School is out! With the rising temperatures and longer evenings, summer is the perfect time to cross things off of your bucket list. Whether you’re stuck with some extra time on your hands or looking for a way to spend your next Sunday afternoon, try out one of these activities with your troop, friends, or family!
Go to a Baseball Game
Check out the Dodger or Giants Baseball Girl Scout Family Day events, or support a local team at the SLO Blues Baseball game!
Go to the Beach
While you’re enjoying some fun in the sun, earn Council’s Own Beach Comber patch! Complete at your own pace, confirm your completion with this form, and then purchase your new patch via eBiz.
Visit a National or State Park
Celebrate the first annual Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend on July 13th – 14th by visiting a local state park! Attend one of council’s events in Ventura, San Benito, or San Luis Obispo County, or grab a friend and choose one of your own favorites.
Go Camping
Summer is the perfect time to get outdoors! Check out one of council’s day or sleepaway camps, or plan an event with your troop. Short on time to plan a trip? Practice pitching a tent in your backyard and have a campout on the spot!
Practice Water Conservation
Hot summer months means that everyone will be using more water than normal. Take the challenge to learn more about water conservation and how to educate others with Council’s Own Forever Green patch! Once you’re finished, fill out this form and purchase your new patch via eBiz.
Be One with Birds!
Build a birdhouse, bird feeder, or bird bath, learn about bird songs, or simply hang out under the trees and bird watch. Santa Barbara Girl Scouts can even attend our Beginning Birding or Parrots in Art, Literature and Science.
Spend a day with Dad
Father’s Day is just around the corner! Give a special thank-you to the Girl Scout Dad in your life by going on a hike, packing a picnic, or enjoying another activity he loves. Looking for a last minute gift? Find the perfect fit in the Girl Scout Shop!
Get Creative
Tap into your artistic side and try your hand at tie dye, make a leaf rubbing print, paint a pet rock, or mix some sidewalk chalk with water to paint outside!
Volunteer
Whether you want to help feed kittens at the animal shelter, serve meals to the hungry or clean up your local park, community organizations are always looking for help during the warmer months. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be inspired for your next Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award project!
Practice Sun Safety
Grab that sunscreen and earn Council’s Own Outrun the Sun Patch! Learn about your body’s largest and fastest growing organ – your skin – by downloading the program. Once you’re finished, complete this form and purchase your new patch via eBiz.
Get Outdoors
Take a nature walk and write down what you see in a journal. Try climbing a tree or read under its shade. Practice your outdoor skills including cooking, using a compass, starting a camp fire and more, and earn Council’s Own Be Wild Be Free Outdoor Skill patch!
